Fruit and vegetable consumption and depression symptoms in young women: results from 1973 to 1978 cohort of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health

Sticking to a high fruit and vegetable diet may help women to fight off depression.

This study analyzed the correlation between fruit and vegetable intake and a woman's likelihood of experiencing symptoms of depression. Researchers tracked the diet and depression diagnosis status of over 4,000 Australian women for a period of 15 years.

Researchers observed that the risk of suffering from depression reduced by 25% and 19% among women who consumed more than 3 servings of fruits and 4 servings of vegetables respectively. The results of this study show that greater consumption of fruits and vegetables may help to halt the development of depression in women.
