Dietary fiber intake, depression, and anxiety: a systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies

Fans of fiber-ladened foods may have a high tendency to keep depression at bay.

​This study sought to investigate on the intake of fiber-rich foods, such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, in relation to the occurrence of depression by means of a meta-analysis. Data extracted from 18 scientific publications were included in this meta-analysis. 

Researchers observed that upping the rate of consumption of fiber-containing foods slashed the risk of depression by 10% in adults and 57% in adolescents. The findings of this study affirmed that high dietary ingestion of fiber may decrease the incidence of depression in both adolescents and adults.
