Dietary intake of fiber, fruit and vegetables decreases the risk of incident kidney stones in women: a Women's Health Initiative report

Indulgence in fruits, vegetables, and other fiber-containing foods may hinder the development of kidney stones in post-menopausal women.

​This study was carried out to confirm the protective effects of fiber, fruits, and vegetables against kidney stones in women. Up to 83,922 post-menopausal women were included in this study and surveyed about their dietary choices and occurrence of kidney stones for a period of 8 years.

Researchers discovered that generous consumption of fiber-containing foods, such as fruits and vegetables, slashed the likelihood of kidney stone formation in post-menopausal women. This study concluded "greater dietary intake of fiber, fruits and vegetables was associated with a reduced risk of incident kidney stones in postmenopausal women."
