The Adequacy of Habitual Dietary Fiber Intake in Individuals With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review

Adequate intake of plant foods loaded with fiber may boost an individual's defenses against inflammatory bowel disease.

This study compared the incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) between consumers and non-consumers of fiber from food sources. Data culled from a pool of 26 studies were analyzed for this study.

Researchers found out that a high proportion of inflammatory bowel disease occurred among individuals at the bottom of the dietary fiber consumption ladder. This study suggests that individuals who want to improve their odds of preventing inflammatory bowel disease should add more fiber-rich foods to their diet.
