Ultra-processed foods and incident cardiovascular disease and hypertension in middle-aged women

The love for ultra-processed foods can trigger the onset of hypertension in middle-aged women.

This study aimed to determine the role a high ultra-processed food diet plays in the development of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in middle-aged women. Researchers used dietary information of more than 10,000 women aged 50-55 years whose health were followed for 15 years.

Researchers discovered that eating lots of ultra-processed foods heightened a middle-aged woman's odds of becoming hypertensive. This study provided additional evidence that ultra-processed food consumption may be one of the culprits that can increase a middle-aged woman's chances of having hypertension.
