Dietary cholesterol and egg intake are associated with the risk of gestational diabetes: a prospective study from Southwest China

Pregnant women on high cholesterol diet may be at risk of developing gestational diabetes.

​This study analyzed the relationship between heightened consumption of cholesterol-rich foods, such as eggs, and the probability of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) occurring in pregnant women. Researchers collated and examined nutritional and health data obtained from 1,617 pregnant women. 

Researchers discovered that pregnant women at the top of the dietary cholesterol ingestion ladder had high prevalence of gestational diabetes. This study affirmed the notion that likeness for eggs and other cholesterol-containing foods may make a pregnant woman vulnerable to gestational diabetes.
