Ultra-processed foods and mortality: analysis from the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology study

The odds of suffering from premature death may be stacked against lovers of ultra-processed foods.

​This research work studied the influence of habitual ingestion of ultra-processed foods on mortality risk. Researchers monitored the eating habits and death rates in a study group comprising of 138,078 persons residing in 5 different continents over a 10-year period. 

Researchers noticed that death toll from cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular diseases was high among ultra-processed food consumers. Based on the data from this study, it could be concluded that fondness for ultra-processed foods may put an individual at risk of dying prematurely from cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular diseases.
