Synthesis of Effect Sizes on Dose Response from Ultra-Processed Food Consumption against Various Noncommunicable Diseases

Diets that encourage the ingestion of ultra-processed foods may lead to a hike in the incident rates of cancer, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

​This study evaluated how ultra-processed food consumption affects the prevalence of different types of non-communicable diseases, including obesity, cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Researchers analyzed relevant data drawn out from 18 studies.

Researchers identified a strong connection between high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods and increase in the burden of obesity, cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. This study highlights the contribution of ultra-processed foods to the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
