Global sodium consumption and death from cardiovascular causes.

High intake of sodium may increase the chances of dying from cardiovascular diseases.

This study investigated the correlation between sodium intake and cardiovascular mortality worldwide. Researchers analyzed the daily consumption rate of sodium in subjects from 66 different countries. The cardiovascular mortality hazard risk was also assessed in all the subjects.

Researchers discovered that intake of sodium above the reference level of 2.0g per day was responsible for 1.65 million deaths globally in 2010. I in every 10 cardiovascular-related deaths was attributed to high sodium consumption in this study. The findings of this study reveal that high sodium intake is associated with high incidence of cardiovascular mortality.
