Fruit and vegetable consumption and mortality in Eastern Europe: Longitudinal results from the Health, Alcohol and Psychosocial Factors in Eastern Europe study

Indulgence in fruits and vegetables may improve an individual's odds of evading premature deaths resulting from stroke and cardiovascular disease.

This study assessed mortality risk based on different levels of consumption of fruits and vegetables. The study population comprised of 19,333 men and women recruited from Russia, Czech Republic, and Poland.

Researchers observed that death toll from stroke and cardiovascular disease decreased with increase in the rate of ingestion of fruits and vegetables. The data from this study suggested that creating more space for fruits and vegetables in our diet may reduce our chances of suffering from early deaths from stroke and cardiovascular disease.
