Association of cannabis use disorder with cardiovascular diseases: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study

Individuals battling with cannabis use disorder may have heightened risk of developing several cardiovascular diseases, particularly stroke, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, coronary artery disease, and deep venous thrombosis.

​This study investigated the impact of cannabis abuse on the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Researchers utilized lifestyle and health information extracted from hundreds of participants in this study. 

Researchers discovered that cannabis abusers were prone to suffering from different cardiovascular ailments, including stroke, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, myocardial infarction (heart attack), pulmonary embolism, coronary artery disease, and deep venous thrombosis. This study concluded that cannabis misuse may increase the frequency of occurrence of stroke, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, coronary artery disease, or deep venous thrombosis.
