Total antioxidant potential of fruit and vegetables and risk of gastric cancer

Adequate intake of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables may help guard against the development of stomach cancer.

This study looked at how high dietary exposure to antioxidants from fruits and vegetables affects an individual's risk of developing gastric (stomach) cancer. Researchers compared the diets of 505 patients with stomach cancer and 1116 cancer-free individuals.

Researchers noted that individuals who consumed the highest amounts antioxidants from fruits and vegetables had the lowest chances of being diagnosed with gastric cancer. This study offered strong evidence supporting the cancer-fighting properties of antioxidants abundant in fruits and vegetables.
