Tobacco smoking, family history, and the risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a case-referent study in Hong Kong Chinese

The odds of developing nasopharyngeal cancer may be tilted against tobacco smokers.

​The purpose of this study was to investigate the detrimental effect of tobacco smoking on the risk of nasopharyngeal cancer. Researchers charted smoking habits against the occurrence of  nasopharyngeal cancer in a study population comprising 762 men and women from Hong Kong. 

Researchers discovered that tobacco smokers faced increased risk of developing nasopharyngeal cancer. This study affirmed the notion that tobacco smoking may put an individual on the path to acquiring nasopharyngeal cancer.
