Let's not sugarcoat it: the association of sugar-sweetened beverage intake with colorectal cancer risk may be subsite-specific

Indulgence in sugary beverages may promote the transformation of normal cells in the colon and rectum to cancerous cells and tumors.

​Can habitual drinking of sugar-sweetened beverages lead to the development of colorectal cancer? This study attempted to provide answer to this question. Researchers used a combination of validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records to obtained information about the dietary choices and colorectal cancer diagnostic status of over 120,000 men and women. 

An upward movement in the risk of colorectal cancer was observed with generous consumption of sugary beverages. This study demonstrated that high intake of sugared drinks may facilitate the development of colorectal cancer in men and women.
