Association of plant-based dietary patterns with the risk of colorectal cancer: a large-scale case-control study

Creating more space for healthy plant foods in our menu may increase our odds of keeping colorectal cancer at bay.

This study clarified whether eating healthy plant foods can improve our chances of warding off colorectal cancer. Researchers evaluated the diets of 2,799 Chinese individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer and another 2,799 of them without the disease.

Researchers noted that higher intake of healthy plant foods correlated with lower incidence of colorectal cancer in the study population. "In conclusion, these results support recommendations that shifting to a healthy plant-based dietary pattern is important for the prevention of colorectal cancer, particularly in the Chinese population that habitually consumes plant foods," the authors wrote.
