Association between Low Fruit and Vegetable Consumption and Colorectal Polyps in Thailand

Low consumers of fruits and vegetables may have a high tendency to develop colorectal polyps.

This study was carried out to determine the odds of developing colorectal polyps based on the frequency of consumption of fruits and vegetables. Researchers looked at the diets of over 1200 middle-aged and elderly men and women from Thailand who had 2 colonoscopy procedures done within 5 years.

Researchers noted that colorectal polyps occurred at a high rate among low consumers of fruits and vegetables. This study concluded that inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables may promote the development of colorectal polyps.
