Dietary phytoestrogen intake and premenopausal breast cancer risk in a German case-control study

Increased consumption of phytoestrogen-rich foods may decrease breast cancer occurrence rates in women.

This study was conducted to assess whether women on high phytoestrogen diet have low risk of getting breast cancer. A total of 278 breast cancer patients and 666 cancer-free women from Germany participated in this study and provided dietary information via validated food frequency questionnaires.

Researchers found diminished breast cancer risk among frequent consumers of phytoestrogen-containing foods. This study shed more light on the protective role of high phytoestrogen diet against breast cancer.
