The Causal Association between Alcohol, Smoking, Coffee Consumption, and the Risk of Arthritis: A Meta-Analysis of Mendelian Randomization Studies

Generous intake of coffee and cigarette smoking may make an individual highly likely to come down with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

​This study summarized data and evidence from previously published studies that examined the use of cigarettes, alcohol, and coffee in relation to the development of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Up to 11 studies were considered eligible for this meta-analysis. 

Researchers identified a strong connection between smoking and coffee drinking and a surge in the risk of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. This meta-analysis pointed out that indulgence in cigarette smoking and coffee consumption may lead to the development of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.
