Marijuana Use and Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Systematic Review of Published Cases in the Literature

Marijuana users are more liable to suffer from acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

This meta-analysis assessed the link between the use of marijuana and the tendency to experience acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Researchers looked at the medical records of 62 patients who participated in 46 studies.

Researchers noted that majority of the patients reported the onset of symptoms of acute myocardial infarction hours after the use of marijuana. The study concluded that "It is important to consider episodic marijuana use as a significant risk factor of AMI, particularly in individuals with no cardiac risk factors, as delay in management can result in fatal outcomes including increased risk of mortality."
