Quantified relations between exposure to tobacco smoking and bladder cancer risk: a meta-analysis of 89 observational studies.

Tobacco smoking may increase an individual's susceptibility to bladder cancer.

This study investigated the tobacco smoking-bladder cancer connection hypothesis by means of a meta-analysis. Researchers compiled data from 89 studies that examined more than 50,000 cases of bladder cancer.

Researchers noticed that bladder cancer was more likely to occur in current and former smokers than in never-smokers. The data from this study indicate that tobacco smoking may be a major contributing factor to the development of bladder cancer.
