Cigarette Smoking and Risk of Infection-Related Mortality: A Cohort Study

Cigarette smoking may raise mortality rates from infectious diseases in men and women.

​This study looked at the link between cigarette smoking and an individual's probability of dying from infectious disease. Researchers matched the smoking habits and mortality records of 583,034 South Korean men and women. 

Researchers found out that the odds of suffering from infectious disease-related deaths went up with increase in the frequency and number of cigarettes smoked. This 2022 study of South Korean men and women documented that cigarette smokers are liable to die prematurely from infectious disease.
