The association between cannabis use and depression: a systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies

Frequent use of cannabis may contribute to the onset of depression.

This study explored the relationship between the consumption of cannabis (marijuana) and the occurrence of depression by means of a meta-analysis. A total of 14 scientific publications were considered eligible for this meta-analysis.

Researchers found out that users of marijuana were 1.17 times more likely to suffer from depression than non-users of this psychoactive drug. The findings of this study reveal that cannabis consumption may edge an individual closer to depression.
