Is There an Effect of Cannabis Consumption on Acute Pancreatitis?

A marked increase in the risk of acute pancreatitis is associated with the use of cannabis.

​This study investigated the cannabis-acute pancreatitis connection hypothesis. Researchers conducted a toxicology analysis on the urine samples of 460 patients admitted for acute pancreatitis to ascertain their exposure to cannabis. 

The research team identified the use of cannabis as a factor responsible for a significant proportion of the cases of acute pancreatitis studied. The results of this study show that cannabis consumption may fuel the development of acute pancreatitis.
