Influence of Alcohol and Red Meat Consumption on Life Expectancy: Results of 164 Countries From 1992 to 2013

Increased frequency of consumption of alcohol and red meat may result in reduced life expectancy in high-income and upper-middle-income countries.

This study assessed the impact of regular ingestion of alcohol and red meat on life expectancy. Researchers studied dietary and mortality records obtained from 164 countries between 1992 and 2013.

The team of investigators noticed that habitual intake of alcohol and red meat shortened the lifespan of individuals in high-income and upper-middle-income countries. This study demonstrates that fondness for alcohol and red meat may have a negative effect on life expectancy.
