Alcohol consumption and risks of more than 200 diseases in Chinese men

The probability of developing chronic diseases, such as cataract, gout, and liver cirrhosis, may be high among men fond of drinking alcoholic beverages.

​This study assessed the contribution of alcohol usage to the burden of chronic diseases. Researchers collated data on the alcohol intake levels and the prevalence of 201 chronic diseases among over half a million Chinese men and women. 

Researchers noticed a strong connection between alcohol consumption and 61 chronic diseases, including cataract, gout, and liver cirrhosis, especially in men. The data from this study adds to the existing evidence that men who enjoy taking alcohol may be liable to suffer from different chronic diseases.
