Alcohol consumption and risk of stroke and coronary heart disease among Japanese women: the Japan Public Health Center-based prospective study.

Heavy drinking of alcohol is tied to higher risk of stroke in women.

​This study examined the relationship between alcohol intake and the incidence of stroke and coronary heart disease among Japanese women. The study population consisted of 47,100 women aged 40-69 years who participated in the Japan Public Health Center-Based Prospective Study. 

Researchers noted that heavy drinking of alcohol raised the likelihood of suffering from stroke. The results of this study show that high intake of alcohol may facilitate the onset of stroke in women.
