This study investigated the connection between the usage of statin medications and the likelihood of undergoing cataract surgery. Researchers examined the rate of statin use among 6,024 US men and women aged 50 years and above who had cataract surgery done on them.
Researchers discovered that statin users had high probability of undergoing a cataract removal surgery compared to non-users of this medication. This study supports the theory that the rise in the use of statin drugs may be responsible for the tremendous increase in the number of cataract surgeries done in the United States.
