Association of statin use with cataracts: a propensity score-matched analysis.

Cataracts are more likely to occur in individuals taking statin drugs.

​This study evaluated the connection between the use of statin medications and the likelihood of suffering from cataracts. Researchers compared the rate of occurrence of cataracts between 13,626 statin users and 32,623 nonusers. 

Researchers observed that statin users had higher chances of developing cataracts than non-users of these drugs. This study concluded that "the risk for cataract is increased among statin users as compared with nonusers."
