Tobacco smoking and gastric cancer risk: an evaluation based on a systematic review of epidemiologic evidence among the Japanese population.

Tobacco smokers may have a high tendency to develop stomach cancer.

This study evaluated the association between tobacco smoking and the incidence of gastric (stomach) cancer in Japanese men and women. Researchers conducted a meticulous meta-analysis on data and evidence obtained from 10 cohort and 16 case-control studies. They found out that tobacco smoking increased gastric cancer development risk in both men and women. The results of this meta-analysis provide further evidence to support the hypothesis that tobacco smoking may accelerate the development of cancerous cells in the stomach.
