Increased consumption of fruits and vegetables may help halt the formation and spread of cancer cells in the non-cardia region of the stomach.

This study examined whether an association exists between frequent intake of fruits and vegetables and the likelihood of being diagnosed with gastric (stomach) cancer. Researchers conducted a meta-analysis on dietary and health data obtained from 810 patients with gastric cancer and 1160 healthy persons residing in Japan, Korea, and China.

Researchers observed that as the rate of consumption of fruits and vegetables increased, the odds of developing cancer in the non-cardia region of the stomach decreased. Evidence from this study suggest that regular ingestion of fruits and vegetables may improve an individual chances of staying free from non-cardia gastric cancer.
