Avid consumption of fruits and vegetables in addition to being physically active may help thwart the development of metabolic syndrome.

​This study assessed the risk of metabolic syndrome associated with adopting a lifestyle that encourages the consumption of fruits and vegetables and consistent participation in physical activity. A total of 7,424 Chinese adults volunteered for this study and were evaluated for their lifestyle choices and incidence of metabolic syndrome. 

Researchers found out that adoption of healthy lifestyle habits comprising of high fruit and vegetable diet and regular exercise lowered the risk of acquiring metabolic syndrome. This study supports the view that adequate intake fruits and vegetables combined with sufficient physical activity may help guard against the onset of metabolic syndrome.
