Diets that favor the consumption of ultra-processed foods may trigger the development of type 2 diabetes.

This research work examined the findings of 18 studies that explored the link between devout consumption of ultra-processed foods and the onset of type 2 diabetes. Nearly 1.1 million individuals were recruited for these studies.

Researchers found a 12% and 31% surge in type 2 diabetes risk among moderate and high consumers of ultra-processed foods respectively. The results of this study showed that fondness for ultra-processed foods may foster the development of type 2 diabetes.
