This study investigated the relationship between diets and type 2 diabetes risk. Researchers analyzed dietary data of 4,304 non-diabetic Finish men and women between the ages of 40-69 years. The type 2 diabetes relative risk of all the participants in this study was also assessed.
Researchers observed a low prevalence of type 2 diabetes among subjects with high intakes of fruits, berries, poultry, margarine, oil, and green vegetables. The findings of this study reveal that high consumption of diets rich in margarine, oil, poultry, fruits, berries, and green vegetables may contribute positively to the prevention of type 2 diabetes in both men and women.
