The odds of developing type 2 diabetes may be stacked against consumers of high salt diet.

This study examined if preference for salty foods is tied to greater risk of type 2 diabetes. The study population included more than 400,000 UK men and women who were surveyed about their food choices and health over an 11-year period. 

Researchers observed that participants who ate more salty foods tend to have high chances of acquiring type 2 diabetes. This study affirmed the hypothesis that sustained intake of generous amounts of foods rich in sodium may make an individual prone to having type 2 diabetes.
