The Metabolic Effects of Oats Intake in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Strict adherence to a high oats diet may help to maintain healthy blood levels of glucose and lipids in patient with type 2 diabetes.

This study examined the effects of oats consumption on the metabolic profile of type 2 diabetic patients. Researchers looked at data extracted from 16 studies.

Researchers discovered frequent ingestion of large servings of oats markedly decreased serum levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), Total Cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and acute postprandial glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes. This study provides evidence that following a high oats diet may help to keep blood glucose and lipid concentrations well controlled in type 2 diabetic patients.
