Sucrose, high-sugar foods, and risk of endometrial cancer--a population-based cohort study.

Diets rich in foods high in sucrose and other added sugars may elevate endometrial cancer risk.

This study examined the association between high dietary exposure to sucrose and other added sugars and the propensity to develop endometrial cancer. Researchers surveyed a total of 61,226 women aged within the age bracket of 40-74 years for an average period of 18.4 years. During the course of the study, 729 women were diagnosed with endometrial cancer.

Researchers noted that increase in the frequency of consumption of foods containing sucrose and other added sugars, such as sweet buns and cookies, resulted in higher risk of endometrial cancer. The data from this study suggest that regular ingestion of foods loaded with sucrose and other added sugars may contribute to the onset of endometrial cancer.
