Consumption of fruit and vegetables and risk of frailty: a dose-response analysis of 3 prospective cohorts of community-dwelling older adults.

Adequate intake of fruits and vegetables may help guard against the onset of frailty in older adults.

The aim of this study was to determine whether consistent consumption of fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of frailty in older adults. Researchers reviewed the dietary and clinical data of more 2,500 men and women.

Researchers found out that habitual intake of generous portions of fruits and vegetables was tied to a lower risk of frailty. This 2016 study of European men and women demonstrates that a high fruit and vegetable diet may confer older adults with significant protection against frailty.
