Organ meat consumption and risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: the TCLSIH study

Devout consumers of organ meat may be prone to suffering from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

This study comprehensively assessed if high dietary ingestion of organ meat can raise an individual's chances of coming down with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Out of the over 15,000 Chinese men and women that volunteered dietary information for this study, a total of 3,604 developed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease over a 4-year period.

Researchers discovered that the greater the frequency and amount of organ meat consumed, the higher the risk of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The results of this study show that regular consumption of organ meat may precipitate the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
