Alcohol Intake and Breast Cancer Risk in African American Women from the AMBER Consortium
Alcohol drinking is significantly related to higher risk of breast cancer.
This study investigated the breast cancer-promoting effect of alcohol. Researchers analyzed the prevalence of breast cancer and the alcohol drinking habits of 22,338 women who were part of the African American Breast Cancer Epidemiology and Risk (AMBER) Study Group.
Researchers noticed that breast cancer occurred at a higher rate in African American women who drank 7 or more alcoholic drinks per week. A similar trend was also observed among women of European descent. This study concluded that alcohol drinking may facilitate the development of breast cancer in both black and white women.
