Cigarette smoking as a risk factor for diabetic nephropathy: A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

Cigarette smokers may be at risk of developing diabetic nephropathy.

This research work studied the cigarette smoking-diabetic nephropathy connection hypothesis. Researchers analyzed data and evidence drawn out from a pool of 9 studies involving over 200,000 participants.

Researchers observed that cigarette smokers had a high tendency to suffer from diabetic nephropathy in comparison with non-smokers. The findings of this study revealed that cigarette smoking may facilitate the onset of nephropathy in diabetic patients.
