Dietary vitamin C intake and the risk of hip fracture: a dose-response meta-analysis.
Adequate intake of vitamin C-containing foods may help guard against the occurrence of hip fractures in men and women.
This study examined the consumption of vitamin C from dietary sources in relation to the risk of suffering from hip fracture. Researchers reviewed data 6 scientific articles that examined 2,899 cases of hip fractures.
Researchers observed that the chances of experiencing hip fracture were lower in individuals who consistently consumed foods packed with vitamin C than in persons on diets low in vitamin C. According to this study, regular intake of 50 mg of dietary vitamin C per day can reduce the likelihood of fracturing the hip bone by 5%. The results of this study indicate that habitual consumers of vitamin C from dietary sources may be less prone to suffering from hip fracture.
