Generous consumption of proteins from plant foods may help foil the development of chronic kidney disease.

This study evaluated the relationship between high dietary exposure to plant proteins and the probability of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD). Researchers followed over 100,000 UK men and women for nearly 10 years, monitoring their eating habits and health. During the course of the study, up to 3,745 participants were diagnosed with CKD.

Researchers found a low proportion of CKD among participants on plant-based diets. This study affirmed that high compliance with a plant-based diet may help boost an individual's defenses against CKD.
