Increasing the amounts and frequency of consumption of cruciferous vegetables may strengthen a woman's defenses against lung cancer.

This study examined the association between the intake of cruciferous vegetables and the odds of acquiring lung cancer in a study population comprising of 74,914 Chinese women between the ages of 40-70 years. Researchers followed the diet and health of all the participants in this study for an average period of 11.1 years.

Researchers discovered that regular ingestion of cruciferous vegetables slashed the risk of lung cancer significantly, particularly in women who were never smokers. This study suggests that women who want to cut down their risk of lung cancer should add more cruciferous vegetables to diets.
