Middle-aged men who enjoyed consuming sugared and diet soda may have increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus.

This research work studied the connection between frequent intake of sugary beverages and diet soda and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in middle-aged men. Researchers examined the health data and soda-drinking habits of 2,037 Japanese middle-aged men over a 7-year period.

Researchers observed that men who drank generous quantities of sugared beverages and diet soda on a regular basis had high rates of type 2 diabetes mellitus in comparison with their counterparts who refrained from consuming these types of beverages. The results of this study showed that habitual drinking of sugary and diet soda may facilitate the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus in middle-aged men.
