Cigarette smoking can trigger the onset and progression of fatal prostate cancer.

The purpose of this study was to undertake a systematic meta-analysis on the relationship between smoking and the likelihood of getting fatal prostate cancer. Researchers reviewed data and evidence drawn out from eligible studies surrounding cigarette smoking and aggressive prostate cancer development risk.

Researchers found a positive association between cigarette smoking and the risk of acquiring fatal prostate cancer. A 2-fold to 3-fold rise in aggressive prostate cancer risk was found in active smokers in this study. The results of this study suggest that cigarette smoking may accelerate the development and progression of the aggressive type of prostate.
