Fondness for sugar-sweetened beverages may be associated with increased incidence of colon cancer in women.

This study evaluated the intake of sugar-sweetened soft drinks in relation to the development of colorectal cancer. Researchers looked at the prevalence of colorectal cancer and the sugary beverage consumption habits of nearly 75,000 Japanese men and women over a 15-year period.

Researchers found out that colon cancer risk increased by a whopping 36% in women, but not in men, who loved taking sugary drinks. This study pointed out that frequent ingestion of sugar-sweetened beverages may contribute to the onset of colon cancer in women.
