Sticking to a high fiber diet may help extend the lifespan of patients suffering from colorectal cancer.

This study focused on the correlation between eating high fiber diet and the likelihood of dying from colorectal cancer (CRC). Researchers monitored the dietary and mortality records of 504 patients with colorectal cancer over a 10-year period.

Researchers found out that participants at the top of dietary fiber consumption ladder demonstrated a marked reduction in colorectal cancer mortality risk up to as much as 42%. "Our results suggest that high dietary fiber intake may be associated with prolonged survival among CRC patients," the authors concluded.
