High intake of ultra-processed food is associated with dementia in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies

Preference for ultra-processed foods may increase an individual's predisposition to dementia.

This research work studied the hypothesis that high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods may facilitate the onset of dementia. Researchers reviewed the dietary and health records of more than 850,000 men and women who took part in 10 studies.

Data analysis demonstrated that the risk of dementia rose by a whopping 44% among passionate consumers of ultra-processed foods. The results of this study showed that individuals on diets loaded with ultra-processed foods may be prone to having dementia.
