Inverse association between dietary fiber intake and depression in premenopausal women: a nationwide population-based survey

Increased dietary exposure to fiber may improve a premenopausal woman's chances of evading depression.

This study was carried out to determine whether fondness for foods packed with fiber is tied to lower risk of depression in women. Researchers studied the eating habits and prevalence of depression among 5,807 Korean women.

Researchers discovered that depression was less likely to occur among premenopausal, but not postmenopausal, women on high fiber diet. This study pointed out that greater consumption of fiber-ladened foods may help to ward off depression in premenopausal women.
