Coffee and caffeine intake and male infertility: a systematic review.

A decline in semen quality and male fertility is associated with frequent consumption of caffeine-containing beverages.

This study evaluated the role high dietary ingestion of caffeine play in the development of male infertility. Researchers analyzed data from 28 published scientific papers that examined the effects of caffeine on semen parameters, such as sperm DNA, count, volume, and concentration.

Researchers observed that habitual drinking of caffeine-containing beverages negatively affected sperm count, volume, and concentration, promoted DNA damage in sperm, and prolonged the time it took a male to impregnate his female partner. The results of this study suggest that fondness for caffeine-rich beverages may be associated with reduced sperm quality and lower male fertility.
